Red vs Blue Season 16

Red vs. Blue Season 16 is in the books!

Red vs Blue, Season 16

On one hand, I wish I could have been a part of it from the start of the series – But on the other, it’s kind of a trip that I got to play a role in SEASON 16 of the Rooster Teeth animated web series, Red vs Blue.

Red vs. Blue (or RvB) is a groundbreaking web series that first appeared online on April Fools’ Day, 2003, and the story of how it came to be is actually pretty incredible.  Even RvB creator and Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns admits they were “…about 8 years early”.

Now, I’d like to think of myself as an old-school gamer video guy, but I’m not.   I broke into the world of “voice over enhanced gaming videos” pretty late in the game compared to RvB and Rooster Teeth.  In 2010 or 2011, I joined the Game Society Pimps and together, we the created the Christopher Walkenthrough* series (which premiered in 2011, if my memory serves me right).

*If you’re unfamiliar, imagine Christopher Walken playing video games and providing a running commentary.  Now, edit that hour of footage/audio down to only the funny stuff – and that’s the series, in a nutshell.

I’d be a fool if I didn’t recognize that RvB had a huge impact on the growth of the audience I enjoyed entertaining.  So, in terms of paying tribute to those who broke ground I’ve walked on, I’m really happy to have played a role in season 16.  I play a character called “Muggins”, who is reminiscent of a watching spirit –  or better, one of Odin’s ravens – an overseeing, documenting entity, who delivers progress reports back to the boss (which makes me middle management, I suppose).  Considering I’m one of two such characters, and the other is named “Huggins”, the Odin’s ravens descriptor is pretty appropriate.

Working with Rooster Teeth was a great experience.  From a production standpoint, and as writers and directors, they’re one of the best companies I’ve had the pleasure to record with.  I hope to have another opportunity.
