Day 85 – Burl Ives Loses at Monopoly
With around 100 albums to his credit, the argument could be made that Burl Ives is an icon of American music. His albums (and the songs on them) fell under many genres. Folk songs, holiday themes, children’s music, traditional standards, western ballads, Broadway hits, and more. The guy was nothing if not prolific. It’s almost sad that most people really only know him for his narration of Rankin-Bass’ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, although his version of the song itself is the gold standard of the track. Burl Ives passed away in 1995, and there’s not much of a call for a Burl Ives impression these days – but every year, around the holidays, there’s always a chance.
Here it is – day 85 of the 100 Voices in 100 Days project: Burl Ives loses at Monopoly.
